We Only Have To Ask

8 Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the whole earth as your possession.
Psalm 2:8 (NLT)

This is another truth that you can never hear from any religious churches. The entire message in the above verse is God telling us to ask him for anything we want and he will give them to us even if we ask for the nations and the whole earth.

This is basically the Gospel of Jesus Christ is all about. The Gospel has nothing to do with dos and don’ts. Being Christians is never about obeying certain rules like going for missions and giving money to the church. As Christians we are set free from all kinds of bondage and fear. When I was in my first church, I lived in fear of God because I thought he is a pervert who loves to make people suffer in order to show them his sufficient grace. So, I stayed away from God as much as I could. Thank God for revealing his truth to me. I have finally realized what the true Gospel Of Jesus Christ really is.

We don’t have to live in fear anymore. Our God is for us and not against us. Life as a Christian is not a life of bondage under unending sets of rules and regulations. Life as a Christian is about freedom to have what we want. We have a God who loves us and promised to give us anything we want without any restrictions. This is the truth that no theologians can ever comprehend.

Someone may ask, “How can God give each of us the whole earth when there is only one earth?” There are 2 parts to the answer to this question. The first is, God can make more earths. In fact there could be other earth-like planets out there in the universe. This universe is big enough to accommodate more earths. Our problem here is how to find them and how to get there. This may be a science fiction stuff but I believe we will get to the time where humanity can travel to the stars.

The second part is on the real reason on why you will want to have the whole earth by yourself. What is your real intention? Do you want to have the riches? In that case, God can give you a lot of money without you having to go through the trouble of taking over the whole earth. No matter what the underlying desires you have for wanting the earth, I am sure those desires can be fulfilled without going through the process of world domination. Therefore, I believe the part on “the whole earth as your possession” is God’s way of telling us that we can have everything we want without limits.

This means we do not have to adopt the mentality of scarcity. We don’t have to be greedy because there is more than enough for every one of us. Even if every human being on earth become Christians and lays claim on the above verse, there is still more than enough riches for everyone of us. The wealth of this universe is like the water in the sea. Whether you take a spoonful, a cupful or a bucket of seawater, it makes no difference for the sea. Do not feel jealous when you see someone taking 10 buckets of seawater home as though there will be lesser seawater available for you. There is more than enough seawater for all of us. All you have to do to get the seawater is to take a bucket and go to the seaside. This is how we should view the riches of this world.

When you are fully convinced of this truth, you live in complete freedom, contentment and joy. You will not feel jealous when you see people who are richer than you. You will not be greedy and want to grab all the riches you can find as though there is not enough to go around. Neither will you feel compelled to sacrifice yourself for the benefit of others. You don’t have to starve to save food for others to eat. There is enough food for all of us to eat together. This is the mentality of abundance. We only have to ask God for anything we want and he will give them to us.

This is the life God wants us to live.
