3 Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.
Proverbs 16:3 (NLT)
I suspect many of us have heard of the phase if you don’t plan, you plan for failure. Many of us are aware of the fact that planning is essential to many things in our lives, which range from our work to our recreation activities. The human race knows that it must plan in order to succeed. However, just because we plan, it does not guarantee that we must be successful. There are many people who planned but nevertheless failed. Does this mean we should give up planning in our lives? The answer is no. All we need to do is to find out how to make our plans successful. The above verse tells us how.
According to this verse, we need to commit our actions to the Lord and our plans will succeed. So, the key words are “Commit your actions to the Lord”. Let us analyze this verse in full in order to get the true meaning of it. The first word I would like to highlight is “actions”. Plans are useless we act on it. When we act on a plan, we can either be successful or fail. However if we don’t, our plans will never come to pass. So, action is essential to the success of our plans.
There are many people who have made great plans of prosperity in their lives but their lives remain poor because they had never acted on them. When asked why had they not acted on their plans, they will come up with all kinds of excuses like not enough money, not enough time, too busy, economy is too bad, cost is too high or any other justification to show that the time is not right. The truth is the time can never be “right”. Think about this. When is the right time to buy a new house? When the economy is booming, property process will be very high. You may not be able to afford it. When the economy is down like right now, the property prices are down and become more affordable to you. However you feel too insecure to make such a huge financial commitment in such times. If you continue to think this way, you will never be able to own a property. You got to decide when to buy a house and do it.
Plans are useless unless they are acted upon. When you plan for something, make sure that your plan contains things for you to act on. Plans that do not have actions in it are nothing more than wishful thinking. They will never come to pass. The first step towards successful plans is, you must act on it and the time to act is now. Let me give you a portion of The Science Of Getting Rich on the importance of acting now.
“This is the crucial point in The Science Of Getting Rich; right here, where thought and personal action must be combined. There are very many people who, consciously or unconsciously, set the creative forces in action by the strength and persistence of their desires, but who remain poor because they do not provide for the reception of the thing they want when it comes.
By thought, the thing you want is brought to you; by action you receive it.
Whatever your actions is to be, it is evident that you must act NOW. You cannot act in the past, and it is essential to the clearness of your mental vision that you dismiss the past from your mind. You cannot act in the future, for the future is not here yet. And you cannot tell how you will want to act in any future contingency until that contingency has arrived.”
If you act in the present with your mind on the future, your present action will be with a divided mind, and will not be effective. Put your whole mind into present action. Do not give your creative impulse to original substance, and then sit down and wait for results. If you do, you will never get them. Act now. There is never any time but now, and there never will be any time but now. If you are ever to begin to make ready
for the reception of what you want, you must begin NOW.”
The Science Of Getting Rich, Chapter 11: Acting In The Certain Way.
So the first step must be action. However, this alone does not guarantee success. In order to make our plans successful we must commit our actions to the Lord as stated in the above verse. What does this means? It refers to being open to God’s intervention in our actions. We need to understand that God is always on our side. His greatest desire is for us to prosper and be in health as our souls prosper. So, even when we find that our actions do not produce the results that we want, it does not mean that our God has switched sides. God is still on our side and his will is still on our success and prosperity. It simply means that we need to reevaluate our actions and commit them to the Lord with the unwavering faith that God knows what he is doing and he wants us to be successful.
God is always suggesting some corrections for our actions to help us achieve our goals. I said “suggesting” because God will never impose his ways on us even if it is for our own good. We have choices to make on whether to accept or reject God’s suggestions. If we are smart and wish to live successful lives, we should accept God’s suggestions to our actions because doing so will ensure the success of our plans.
So, commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.
