39 The Lord rescues the godly; he is their fortress in times of trouble.
40 The Lord helps them, rescuing them from the wicked. He saves them, and they find shelter in him.
Psalm 37:39-40 (NLT)
Welcome to the 24th and the final installment on my study of Psalm 37. Psalm 37:39 tells us the Lord rescues the godly and he is their fortress in times of trouble. The bad news, we are not immune to troubles. No matter how much we tried to avoid them, we will still face troubles. So the right question we should ask ourselves is not how to avoid troubles but what to do when troubles come. This reminds me on a verse from Sun Tzu Art Of War.
VIII. Variation in Tactics
11. The art of war teaches us to rely not on the likelihood of the enemy’s not coming, but on our own readiness to receive him; not on the chance of his not attacking, but rather on the fact that we have made our position unassailable.
Likewise for Christians, we should not rely on the likelihood of having no troubles or attacks but we must prepare ourselves to be ready to overcome them. God has promised in Psalm 37:39-40 that he will rescue us and be our fortress when trouble comes. A fortress is designed to withstand attacks. So, when you are under attacks from the devil or people, fear not for God is your fortress. Run to him. Only he can protect you from harm and help you to defeat all your enemies.
Even if you find yourself trapped by the wicked, God is still with you and he promised to help you and rescue you from them. He will save you and you will find shelter in him. This tells me that as long as God is with me, I can overcome any troubles that Satan throws at me. I am forever victorious because he who is in me is greater than he who is in this world. No matter how difficult the situation looks like, I can look forward with joy and peace in my heart because I know the final outcome. I am called to battle and destined to win.
The above scenario can be a certainty for all of us if we choose to make God our fortress. Don’t avoid him when you face troubles. Run to him. He is your shelter and your fortress. He has all the answers and the resources you need to win. Pray, read the Bible and listen to faith messages. I have a few links to other faith websites that are designed to help you to be an overcomer. Click on them, read and listen to their messages. See if your life is not changed.
In conclusion, the entire message of Psalm 37 can be summarized into the following: God is on your side, protecting you from every harm and blessing you with prosperity in every area of your life. Do not be distracted when you see the outward prosperity of the wicked people. Their prosperity don’t last, yours do. The most important thing you should do is to trust in him. When you put your trust and hopes in him, you will be in position to experience success and prosperity that are exceedingly and abundantly above what you dare to hope and dream of.
