21 The wicked borrow and never repay, but the godly are generous givers.
22 Those the Lord blesses will possess the land, but those he curses will die.
Psalm 37:21-22 (NLT)
Welcome to the eleventh installment on my study of Psalm 37. The wicked borrow and never repay. This is their characteristic. This means we should not lend to them. In contrast the godly are generous givers. Why is that so? Godly people live by faith. It is impossible to live in faith and not be generous. The more faith we have, the more prosperous our mind had become. Generosity is a product of a prosperous mind. Therefore godly people are generous givers.
It important for us to constantly remind ourselves that God’s way of getting rich is to give.
25 The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.
Proverbs 11:25 (NLT)
If you are really serious about getting rich I suggest you to from a giving plan. It does not have to be big and involve a lot of money. The only conditions your giving plan must fulfil are:
1. It must involve some amount no matter how little.
2. It must be set at a fix proportion to your income.
The first condition means there must be some giving. If you cannot afford to give $100 a month, then give $1 a month. If you still can’t afford that, make it $1 a year. You have to give something or the plan is empty. God’s way of prosperity is to sow the seeds first before reaping the harvest.
The second condition is meant to ensure an escalating amount of harvest to flow into our lives. Let us assume that you plan to give 10% of your income to a ministry that cares for the poor children in Africa. When you earn $1,000, you give $100.
When you earn $10,000, you give $1,000.
When you earn $100,000, you give $10,000.
When you earn $1,000,000, you give $100,000.
This means the richer you are, more children will be cared for, the better the world will become. Will God be pleased? I am sure he will. Not only that, he will be eager to make you richer and richer because it will result in more children having enough to eat, have sufficient medical care and proper education. If you want to have compassion for the poor, then get rich.
Psalm 37:22 tells us that God’s blessing is not empty words. He does not just say “I bless you.” and does nothing. When God blessed us, we will posses the land. The “land” refers to prosperity in every area of our lives. So wherever you see the word “bless”, it means God wants to prosper you.
22The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
The second part of Psalm 37:22 tells us that those he curses will die. God is referring to the wicked people. God will never curse Christians because he has redeemed us from all our sins. Do not allow yourself to be deceived by the religious people into believing that you must obey their religious rules or God will curse you to death. You have to keep in mind that God loves you so much that he is even willing to sacrifice his only begotten Son to pay for the penalty of your sins. As long as you continue to believe in the love of God, religions have no effect on you.
