The Attacks Of The Wicked

12 The wicked plot against the godly; they snarl at them in defiance.
13 But the Lord just laughs, for he sees their day of judgment coming.
14 The wicked draw their swords and string their bows to kill the poor and the oppressed, to slaughter those who do right.
15 But their swords will stab their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.
Psalm 37:12-15(NLT)

Welcome to the seventh installment on my study of Psalm 37. This time we are looking at the attacks from the wicked people. If you think that the wicked people will leave you alone when you have decided to take faith seriously, you are living in a dream-land. You are not living in reality. No matter how much you tried to mind your own business, the wicked people are still out to get you.

If you ever find people plotting against you or talking bad things about you, don’t be surprised. God knew about these activities a long time ago and his response is just laugh. Why? He knows their plot will fail. He has even guaranteed that no weapon formed against us will prosper and the day will come when all the wicked people will be judged. So, if God can laugh at the plots of the wicked, why can’t we do the same? After all, we belong to the same species.

So, if you are facing attacks from the wicked people right now, the first thing you should do is to relax. Don’t allow them to steal your peace and joy. You have to remind yourself that he who is in you is greater than he who is in this world. No matter how much your enemies tried to attack you, your God is greater than all of them put together. The only thing that matters is your faith. The question you need to ask yourself is whether you are going to use your faith to fight back or to allow your faith to slip.

When you are under the most intense attack, God is laughing. He is not laughing at you but at your enemies because they are destined to lose. Their day of judgement will come. In this condition, the dumbest thing that you can ever do is to give up when God guarantees your victory.

Psalm 3:14 tells us that the wicked people can even go to the extreme in killing the poor and the oppressed. Why else does God calls them wicked? However, the next verse assures us that even if the wicked people resort to such level, they will still lose. Our God can turn their weapons against them. At that time they will wish they had never attacked you in the first place.

I believe this passage is meant to give us assurance when we are facing attacks from the enemies. These enemies can be pure spiritual or they can involve human participation. It is not beneath Satan’s level to use people to talk bad about us and to persecute us.

All the faith preachers that I know of are facing persecutions. You can see very clearly in the internet that religious people have been spreading lies and slanders about those who preaches the Gospel. Who do they resort to such level? What benefit do they get? Does anyone pay them to spread lies and slanders? Obviously it is the works of Satan. Even from Jesus’ time, Satan had been using religious people to persecute believers and this situation remains the same today.

Why doesn’t God stop that? He doesn’t need to. He has given us the victory even before the attacks come. All we have to do to overcome life challenges is to trust in him. In him we have the guarantee of our victory. No matter how strong our enemies appear to be, they will be defeated. Once the dust settled, we are the ones left standing and we will have the right to lay claim to the spoils of war. If we keep running away from challenges, we will miss all the victories and the spoils that God wants us to have.

Be brave and be in faith. Face your battles with the calm assurance that your God is with you and he is greater than anything your enemies can throw at you. Victory is yours. Success is your. Go ahead and take it.
