25 The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.
Proverbs 11:25 (NLT)
This verse is the answer for those who have asked on why they should be generous. Being generous will result in prosperity. In fact, if you are to read the secular how-to-get-rich books in the market, they will tell you one of the things you must do to get rich is to be generous. Where do you think they got this? They got it from the Bible. They just don’t quote the source. So, if you have decided to give up faith and turn to secular sources for your prosperity, you will be surprised because they are using the same principles. All they have done is to write it in another way.
The bottom line is this, God is the most prosperous and successful person in the entire universe. All his natural characteristics are the characteristics of prosperity and success. The more we take up these characteristics, the more prosperous and successful we will become. Generosity is one of them.
When we are generous, we are in a giving mode. In my previous articles, I have explained the benefits of giving. However, in this article, I want to look into it from another perspective. When we give, we become a channel of blessing from God. What is a channel? A channel has an inlet and an outlet. The outlet is the part where we bless others. It is like a water hose. At one end, water flows out and at the other end it is connected to a tap. As long as you can see water flowing out of the hose, you can be sure that the tap is turned on. The hose does not contain all the water that flow out from it. It can produce the water because it is connected to the tap.
Likewise, when we are in the act of giving, we are turning on the tap of God’s blessings into our lives. There is no limit on how much blessings we can receive because our God is extremely rich. God is not the one who placed a limit to our prosperity. As far as he is concern, he has blessed us with every blessing in the spiritual realm. It is up to us to withdraw these blessings from the spiritual to the physical realm. We need faith to make the withdrawal and being generous is our action in faith.
In my previous article entitled, “The Faith Of Rahab”, I have shown that the entire town of Jericho had “faith” but only Rahab’s faith worked because she took action. Like her, we need to take action to make our faith on prosperity work and this action involves giving.
The water from the tap has to flow through the hose before coming out of it. Likewise, the blessing of God has to go through us before we bless others. This is what the second part of Proverbs 11:25 by those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. So, when you give money, you will receive more money.
This principle is not limited to money alone. It can be anything. When you encourage others, you will be encouraged. When I write articles in this blog and share the Gospel Of Jesus Christ from the Bible, I get new revelations on faith that I never knew before.
So, what do you want right now? If you want more money, be generous with money. If you don’t have a lot to give, start small. If you cannot afford to give $100 to the poor, give $1. $1 may not look much but it is able to start the flow moving. Only then it will grow big. The mistake many people had made is, they plan to give only after they got rich. As a result, they will never get rich. Why? Giving is the catalyst to bring riches to our lives. Giving precedes riches. We have to start giving to be rich and not the other way round.
This is the difference between the religious people and us. The religious people regard generosity as a sacrifice but the Bible clearly says generosity will lead prosperity. We believe in what the Bible says.
In conclusion, if you want to be rich, start being generous.
