6 And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.
Hebrews 11:6 (NLT)
This is the sixth installment in my study on faith from Hebrews 11. If you are new to this blog, I suggest you click on “Articles From Yeap Chee Seng” category at the top left hand side of this page. Scroll down and will see the series from Verse 1 to 6.
The first part of Hebrews 11:6 tells us that it is impossible to please God without faith. God values our faith in him. Having faith in God means telling him that you believe in his words even if the external situation behaves in the opposite way from what he said. Here are some examples:
When God said Jesus took all your diseases at the Cross, you believe it is true even if you are suffering from the symptoms of disease right now. You may be feeling the pain and discomfort. You may have heard from the doctors telling you that you are suffering from a serious and incurable disease. However, you choose to keep rejoicing and praising God because you believe Jesus has taken away all your disease. You choose to believe you are healed from the incurable disease even though you cannot see the manifestation of it. This is faith. God loves it because you trust him more than the natural circumstances around you. At this stage, it will not take long for you to be healed.
Likewise, you may be facing a huge financial crisis right now. There is a mountain of debts right in front of you and you have no more money in the bank. You can see all the unpaid bills and notices demanding payment. All these symptoms tell you that you are broke and about to lose everything you owned. However, the Bible also said Jesus died poor at the Cross, to make you rich. Being in faith means you allow God to have the final say.
You may say, “So what if I have so much financial problems right now? Jesus died poor for me to live rich. Therefore I confess I am rich in Jesus’s name.” As long as you focus on the words of God instead of the negative situation around you, the negative situation will not last. God will be so pleased with you that he will deliver you from your problems and bless you with abundant prosperity. Soon, you will have more money than you can dream of. This is the result of faith.
There is nothing that pleases God more than faith. When I was in my previous religious church, I was told that I must fulfill a list of regulations like pray, read the Bible, give money to church, go for missions etc. I was under the false impression that God is pleased when I keep the list. The problem was, the more often I went to church, the list got longer. The religious preachers are very creative in adding to the list. They can come up with anything as long as it is not faith. Religious preachers hate faith. They like christians going through rituals but when they hear of christians who are in faith, they will resort to anything to stop it including spreading lies and slanders on preachers of faith. Therefore being religious does not please God. God is pleased with faith, not religions.
The second part of Hebrews 11:6 gives us 2 conditions for anyone who wants to come to God. They are:
1. believe that God exists
2. he rewards those who sincerely seek him
The first condition is not a problem for most people in this world. Most people believe in some sort of a God. Only well-trained atheist have the ability to disbelieve that God exist. Atheism is not natural and has to be conditioned for it to be firmly planted in someone’s mind. Not only that, it can only exist in a stable and predictable environment. When the situation becomes unpredictable and chaotic like someone who is drowning in the sea with no help in sight, atheism will cease to exist. An atheist who is facing imminent death and could not see any way out will cry out to God.
The second condition is, we must believe God rewards those who sincerely seek him. God loves to reward people who sincerely seek him. Who are those people who sincerely seek him? People with faith. You can never find a verse in the Bible that says God rewards people who are religious. Faith and religion are exact opposite. You cannot have both. The preachers of faith like Kenneth Copeland, Jerry Savelle, Ceflo Dollar etc are not religious. They preached faith, not religion. As a result, they faced persecution by those who are religious. However, that does not stop them from being rewarded by God. They are rich. So rich that the religious people tried to persecute them for their riches as though christians must be poor.
In conclusion, if you want to please God and be rewarded you will have be in faith. Listen to faith messages and don’t waste time on religious talk.
