2 Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation.
In my previous article, I went through Hebrews 11:1 on the definition of faith. Hebrews 11:2 tells us the track record of it. The people in days of old earned a good reputation. Who are these people and what reputation they have? Obviously it must be referring to men of faith like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David and others who put their faith in God. Let us run through the legacies they left behind.
1And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.
26Thus David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.
27And the time that he reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Jerusalem.
28And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour: and Solomon his son reigned in his stead.
1 Chronicles 29:26-28 (KJV)
12 Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the LORD blessed him.
13 The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy.
14 He had so many flocks and herds and servants that the Philistines envied him.
41 Whenever the stronger females were in heat, Jacob would place the branches in the troughs in front of the animals so they would mate near the branches,
42 but if the animals were weak, he would not place them there. So the weak animals went to Laban and the strong ones to Jacob.
43 In this way the man grew exceedingly prosperous and came to own large flocks, and maidservants and menservants, and camels and donkeys.
The above are only a few of the examples found in the Bible on the people in the days of old who have faith in God. They have good reputation. Their good reputation cover blessings in every area in their lives like prosperity, good health, successful enterprise and long life. This tells us that faith is not an empty word used in a religious setting. It is meant to produce results. As long as you are in faith, you are supposed to be rich, healthy, be successful in your enterprise and have long life.
The devil is afraid of christians who are in faith because faithful christians have good reputations like the faithful people in the days of old and able to make Jesus attractive. People of the world will be drawn to Jesus when they see christians who believe in him are all rich, healthy and successful. The devil is afraid of this. This is why he has raised so many religious people to persecute christians who choose to live in faith.
Based on my experience in a religious church in the past, I find the religious groups to be highly fragmented. They can quarrel over any issue. Even topics like the procedures of baptism, child baptism and the leadership of women are big issues to them. Yet, they become very united in their attack against christians who preach faith. Why is that so? What give them such unity? This tells me that the devil must be very terrified with faith.
The devil does not mind us going through acts like praying as long as we have no faith because prayer without faith is nothing more than a religious ritual. Likewise, religious people do not mind us praying but the moment we are in faith, they will get very upset and start calling us names like “Prosperity Gospel” in order to discourage us from believing in the faithfulness of God.
I put all the above to show you how crucial faith is in our christian walk. Faith is the ammunition that can wreck havoc to the Kingdom Of Darkness and enable us to get back the prosperity that was stolen from us. Prayer is only the gun that directs the path of faith, showing it where to hit. Prayer without faith is like shooting an empty gun. All you get is some clicking sounds but the enemy is not hurt. Both prayer and faith must work together in order to achieve the results we want in our lives.
Through faith, we can change our lives and subsequently the world. Through faith we can move beyond the limitations of the natural world to achieve the supernatural. The impossible will become possible. It is through faith that we can have direct access to the powers and authority of our father who is the God in heaven to bring prosperity to the world around us. You may have lost everything else you valued but as long as you do not lose your faith, you are in position to get them all back. So don’t give up. Keep your faith.
